The Petronas Twin Towers located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur is without doubt a wonder on its own. What was once 103 acres of Selangor Turf Club, where the rich and famous race their horses, now stood the tallest twin towers in the world. The Petronas Twin Towers stand at a staggering height of 451.9 meter in height making it the world's tallest twin towers.

The idea to develop the Petronas Twin Towers came in the early 1990s with the master architect Cesar Pelli. The development was a vision of the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamed. In fact the designed was revised many times before the Prime Minister was satisfied. In the end, the basic shape was an inspiration of Mahathir himself and to be placed right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur itself.

The design of the Petronas Twin Towers is based on a simple Islamic geometric design of 2 squares aligned crossing each others to form an 8 pointed star. This reflects unity within unity, harmony stability and tranquility. The first obstacle came in the form of space. For Cesar Pelli, the basic 8 star design creates a space problem. Hence 8 semi circles were added, superimposed on the angle of intersection between the 2 original square to cater for this problem.

After all design of the Petronas Twin Towers were completed, the engineers saw a major obstacle in the construction. The original location in the center of Kuala Lumpur, is too soft to hold what would be the world's tallest building. The team of engineers came up an ingenious plan to create one of the world's deepest foundation at an amazing dept of 150meter below ground level. The raft foundation created a record with 13200 cubic meter poured continuously over 48 hours to prevent crack.

To create the Petronas Twin Towers out of steel would be too costly. Thus, the engineers decided to use what is abundant in Malaysia, concrete. After months of research, a high strength of Grade 80 was developed with the structural system to withstand 135 km/h of gust winds.

Two towers of the Petronas Twin Towers are connected with a 60 meters sky bridge suspending at a height of 170 meter making it the highest sky bridge in the world. What is unique about the sky bridge is that, if you stand in the center of the bridge you would realize it is perfectly horizontal, yet the floor connected by the bridge are not of the same floor, with one on the 41st floor and the other on the 42nd floor. From the bridge, you would get a perfect glimpse of the whole city of Kuala Lumpur.

To fasten the speed of construction, Mahathir had 2 different company for to construct each of the towers, creating a rival. Tower 1 was completed on the 6th of March 1996, followed by Tower 2 5 days later. To pull off an amazing construction in middle of Kuala Lumpur is real challenge. The construction finished within 5 years, and gave birth to a new skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur. Although both contractor initially decided to put the spire together, but the contractor for tower 1 decided to install it the same night without prior knowledge of the other contractor.

Both of the towers are installed with a high speed double decker lifts that can travel at an amazing speed of up to 6 meters per second making it the fastest elevator in Kuala Lumpur, rival to that of the nearby Kuala Lumpur Tower.

The Petronas Twin Towers opened its doors in 1997 with the official opening in 1998 just before the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. It represent the will and spirit of Malaysian and a testimony that they can achieve anything as long as they put their dreams into actions. The Petronas Twin Towers was the tallest building in the world until 2004 when it was taken over by Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

Twin Towers #05

I'm writing this article in the month of August in the year 2009. It has been almost 8 years since the Twin Towers in New York City have been destroyed. The people who claimed to have destroyed it, and assume responsibility for its destruction, are part of a small terrorist group.

The problem begins with this small group, who chose to follow Islam and would therefore, be considered Muslims. So most people assume that the Muslims are waging war against the United States, when the reality of the situation is something totally different.

There are plenty of Muslims that live in the United States that weren't responsible for the bombing or the destruction of this monumental symbol of strength that lies in New York City. I've got some other news that you might be interested in; there are plenty of Muslims that live all over the world that weren't involved and had no idea or would have never even supported such an act of terrorism.

Just because a small group of Muslims attacked and destroyed the twin Towers doesn't mean that all Muslims were involved in this act. It's amazing, today, to actually think about what people truly believe in.

The media seems to be losing its foothold on society. One of these days, maybe we will get news that's actually worth watching, instead of information that is filling our minds with nonsense and false beliefs.

The Muslims didn't destroy the twin Towers, a small group of terrorists were responsible. It's time for a change, those people who are still watching the news on television were reading the local newspapers, need to unplug their mind from these negative sources of information. Not everything that you read or hear about is ever going to be the truth and media all over the world, seems to prove that on a daily basis.

Twin Towers #04

The symbolism of the twin beams of light as they thrust skyward from the site of the now ruined but once majestic twin towers in New York is obvious to all who see them.

The first time I saw those twin lights on my television screen, I thought: what a wonderful tribute, what a magnificent way to celebrate and remember the lives of the nearly three thousand people who died there on 9/ll. As their families and friends know, those lights carry a heart-warming message of both encouragement and defiance that is far beyond the power of any of our well meaning attempts to comfort them. But, there is more to it than that.

In my lifetime, there was only one other occasion that compares with 9/ll. That was December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day. I was fourteen years old back then. We first heard the news of the attack on Pearl Harbor as it was announced on our family radio that Sunday afternoon. The next day, everyone in my school gathered in the auditorium and together, we listened as President Roosevelt's declaration of war was announced to the nation, the world and us.

The sleeping giant, that was the USA, was awakened by the attack on Pearl Harbor. We went to war. Then, with the attack on 9/11, the sleeping giant was re-awakened. President Bush immediately declared war on terrorism. As we knew in 1941, and again in 2001, as one nation under God, we have a worldwide responsibility to fight for and defend the freedom of people everywhere...or else.

Back in WW2, and in today's 9/11, lives were both lost and changed. As Americans we will always enthusiastically rise to the challenge to: pray, work and support the God-given rights of all people, everywhere to live in freedom. This means, as citizens, we must enthusiastically vow to support patriotism, our troops, and our leaders.

Look again at the Twin Tower lights. Notice this: Americans placed them there. Americans turned them on. And, in addition, Americans aim them toward the heavens where God, who is the source of our strength, lives.

Remember, terrorism can only live in darkness. Light destroys darkness. Obviously, the awesome lights of those Twin Towers symbolize America's determination to destroy terrorism's darkness with light - so people everywhere can live in peace and freedom.

There are so many skyscrapers in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Most are shopping centers, office and residential buildings and hotels. Among all of the towering structures in the city, there is one building which stand out so well, a basic manifestation of impressive modern architectural aesthetics: the Petronas Twin Towers.

As an icon of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia, who would not know the Petronas Twin Towers? Once hailed as the world's tallest building but remains to be the tallest twin towers in the world, it is a constant factor as to why the tourist arrivals in the city are skyrocketing.

It presents different things about a variety of topics - from the age of dinosaurs to life in outer space. It also integrates different information about petroleum, and how its discovery has changed the world.

The discovery centre features a lot of highlights. There is the Geotime Diorama which features the pre-historic times; The Petrojaya, which is a high-technology cartoon village depicted with Malaysian art in a shadow play; The Dark Ride, which brings anyone a thrilling adventure of exploring Malaysia's rainforests, mountain tops, and underwater ecology; And the Flight to the Oil Platform, which allows anyone to manoeuvre a helicopter as it encounters a storm.
